UI & UX

Project Overview

Industry: Fintech · Crypto and Digital Assets
Timeline: 4 months
My Role: UI & UX Designer

Deliver a secure and beginner friendly wallet where buying, receiving, sending and swapping take only a few simple steps on both platforms.

Overview

I led the end to end UX and UI for a mobile crypto wallet, collaborating weekly with engineers and a PM and presenting key decisions to the client. The product focuses on a safe first run, clear money flows, and a flexible, motion friendly design system that scales across iOS and Android.

Challenge

There was no existing structure or content, so I designed the information architecture, security and money flows from the ground up. We also needed high performance, transparent fees and clear transaction states to keep first time crypto users comfortable.

Results

~70% completion of the security flow

2m 30s median time to first action after install

~20% D7 retention among registered users

Process

Research and analysis. Low cost methods suited to a small team: competitor scan of leading wallets, heuristic reviews, internal dogfooding, quick hallway tests with colleagues and friends, and early GA4 baseline plus support feedback to spot friction.

Information architecture. Bottom navigation with Home, QR, Wallet, Activity, and Discovery, a single global search entry, and a linear Security flow from Citizenship and Verification to PIN or Face ID and Recovery phrase.

Wireframing and prototyping. Low to mid fidelity flows in Figma progressed to clickable prototypes that covered buy, swap, send, empty and error states, with quick iteration cycles.

Visual design and design system. I built a “living” design system that uses Figma Variables and semantic tokens for color, type, spacing, elevation, and motion. Components are responsive and stateful with variants and usage guidelines. The UI follows Apple HIG and Material guidance for navigation, gestures, sheets, typography, and accessibility so patterns feel native on iOS and Android.

Key solutions. Buy with card using amount presets and a clear final charge. Swap with aggregated route, price, fees, price impact, and auto or fixed slippage. Send with address and ENS, a QR scanner, and Recents to reduce input errors. Activity with All or Received or Sent filters, a detailed transaction sheet, and an explorer link.

Stack

Ways of working

Agile workflows with short design sprints and weekly demos. Stakeholder presentations to align decisions. Cross functional collaboration with engineering, PM and QA. Product roadmapping with clear trade offs and prioritization to keep the MVP focused.

Next steps or A/B testing

Test onboarding prompts such as Buy 10 dollars now versus Receive first and refine recovery phrase guidance to increase completion of the security flow. Experiment with price alerts and simple auto invest at 25 dollars per week to lift repeat actions and retention.
